CONVERSION
Bukit Timah Mountain Biking Trail, being Singapore’s oldest designated mountain biking trail, connects closely to various generation of mountain bikers in Singapore. The old school fall-line gulley filled aligned trails offers a good deal of adventure during the hard-tail mountain biking era of the 90s.
A few ill-advised band-aid patch work adventure during the early 2000s, where concrete is liberally poured in various sections, results in hollow out undercut and disturbed surrounding, degrading user experience as the years worn on.
In 2012, Dirtraction was contracted as the trail specialist to assist in the upgrade process of this old trail, requiring us to work around tight conservation planning corridors and within challenging terrain of the original trail alignment.
This 2012 – 2013 effort rerouted the original trail away from key conservation boundaries, while adding the much needed sustainability upgrade to most of this 8 km long trail loop.
THE NEW ‘BeeTee’ EXPERIENCE
The new project conceptualization started way back in the early 2003-2004, where construction starts only late 2006.
The new trail featured various reroute at key areas increasing the length of the trail by about 20%. Trails are brought in tighter, with less straight line sections, where mendering around trees and rocks becomes compulsory. Lowering the average speed while keeping the perceived flow.
Various technical trail sections were introduced at Cliffhanger, Calamus Flow, Rock & Drop and Meek Creek, upkeeping the technical nature of this pioneer trail.
